beastman - cosmic nature http://www.watim.com/index.php?entry=532

element presents 'cosmic nature' - an exhibition of new paintings by beastman. the seeming dominance over our world is illusory and ephemeral. we consider ourselves masters of all creation, but as a species, humanity is insignificant on a cosmic scale, our limited perceptions allow us to only see a fraction of reality. ‘cosmic nature’ is a refreshing new series of paintings by sydney based artist beastman that explores the futuristic and overwhelming idea of nature coming to life in a way we could have never imagined. a new colour palette and further development of his distinctive style, reflects the different elements of our young world, organic lines and the often symmetrical geometric patterns found in nature. whatever meaning or purpose may or may not be invested in these paintings, the deities featured in his ambitious new works are a representation of what lies beyond the boundaries of our imagination, when the cosmic forces of nature eventually reveal the irrelevance of humanity in the universe. this exhibition also acts as a launch for beastman’s first publication. ‘suburban nature’ is a limited edition 60 page zine featuring street art, murals and collaborations created by the artist over 2 years throughout 10 different countries, documenting the journey and development of the artist’s distinct style. the exhibition opens thursday 8 december 2011 7pm-10pm and continues until 18 december at kind of gallery, 72 oxford street, darlinghurst (sydney). more info and zines available to purchase online here - www.beastman.com.au]]>

L4NE FOUR mirrors its home, the galeries, with its diverse boutique offerings and aims to foster and create sustainable opportunities for australian and international artists. set before a heritage listed sandstone backdrop and suspended from the ceilings of the galeries thoroughfare, L4NE FOUR's first installation will be home to three collaborative panels from avatar artists dominating the sydney street art scene. exhibition one titled 'TRANSIENT' will feature large scale panels and exhibit the pairings of two artists per artwork. each panel serves as a canvas for two stylistically matched artists to push creative limits side by side and create utterly unique, one off pieces. on the billing will be long time collaborators and sydney artistic staples, BEASTMAN and PHIBS whose otherworldly creatures spill from distant, exotic lands and extra dimensional riffs. MAX BERRY and MARK ALSWEILER will compliment this distinctive whimsical process with mark blending his dreamy, static gaucho figures and max creating worlds in which inhabitants exist amongst strange lore and are in a constant state of awe and discovery. with bold lines and colour reminiscent of comics of yesteryear, the dynamic duo JUMBO and NUMSKULL occupy the final panel. NUMSKULL's work is superhero limbs, disembodied cartoon expressions and classic type work mashed together in a blender. JUMBO's larger than life psychedelic characters dress dappled in hyper-colour and dizzying patterns. the works will be displayed at L4NE FOUR at the galeries, 500 george street (pitt st entrance) from october 13 to november 11. there is an opening event on thursday 13 october 2011 from 6-9pm, where all guests will go into the draw to win an original beastman painting. more info and rsvp here - www.lanefour.com.au - www.thegaleries.com]]>

each being congruent with activity and without gravitational pull. these worlds are, quite literally, on the brink of being turned upside down. this must see exhibition opens friday 1 april 2011 and continues until 17 april at the madman void, 1-35 wellington street, collingwood (melbourne). more info here - self-taught sydney artist, trent whitehead will present a new body of work titled 'the thinnest of betweens' at monster children gallery. with this series, whitehead attempts to represent a disparate and essentially unusual view of past and future. just like a dream is the mere sorting and cataloguing of a day's events by our subconscious, whitehead's paintings on wooden panels are subtly filled with experiences of his own existence. the wondrous and often humorous paintings make up one half of the exhibition, the other half consists of his distinctive masks, which have become a significant component of his artist practice. the masks, lending themselves to the life-giving process of construction, are three dimensional embodiments of the delinquents from his paintings. pieced together from geometric shapes and painted with the same memphis-like colour palette and omnipresent patterning as the paintings, a certain intensity and vitality is introduced. this show is not to be missed, it opens thursday 22 july 2010 6pm and continues until 7 august at monster children gallery, burton st, darlinghurst (sydney). more info here - www.trentwhitehead.com]]>
